2017 started strong with the opening of the Sam Shaw 60 Years of Photography exhibition tour at Germany's oldest film museum, the Filmmuseum Potsdam. For the duration of the exhibition, various films Sam Shaw produced, directed and photographed will be screened at the Filmmuseum, including Zorba the Greek, A Streetcar Named Desire, Paris Blues, The Seven Year Itch, Opening Night and a rarely seen documentary about the punk band Blondie.

Sam Shaw Exhibition Travels to Prague

The "Sam Shaw: 60 Years of Photography" exhibition opening reception at its fifth museum venue, the Prague City Gallery - House of Photography, takes place on October 10th, 2016. Celebrating the opening will be Magdalena Juříková, The Director of Prague City Gallery, Thomas Buchsteiner, Director of BuchsteinerArt-Management, Olga Malá, curator of Prague City Gallery, Edie Shaw Marcus and Meta Shaw Stevens, Sam Shaw's daughters, and Lorie Karnath, author of the exhibition catalog. The exhibition is on view to the public from October 11, 2016 through January 15, 2017.
Sam Shaw Exhibition Opens at the City Museum of Heilbronn, Germany

The "Sam Shaw: 60 Years of Photography" exhibition opens this week at its fourth museum venue, the City Museum of Heilbronn. The mayor of Heilbronn, Martin Diepgen, along with the City Museum's director Dr. Marc Gundel, curator Dr. Kerstin Skrobanek and author of the exhibition catalog Lorie Karnath, will speak at the opening celebration this Friday, June 17. The exhibition will then run from June 18 through September 25, 2016.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the exhibition tour Sam Shaw: 60 Years of Photography on September 11, 2015 at the Cultural Center of Cascais, Portugal. The solo exhibition includes over 200 photographs, some never before seen, along with vintage magazines, letters, and other archival material from Shaw's long photography and filmmaking career. The exhibition will run through November 8th in Portugal and then continues to Germany and other European locations.

On view now through October 18, 2015: the National Portrait Gallery in London's exhibition Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of An Icon. A selection of more than seventy images including two by Sam Shaw, one of which is shown here for the first time alongside other leading twentieth-century photographers, such as Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Terry O’Neill, Norman Parkinson and Irving Penn. The exhibition also includes an array of vintage magazine covers, film stills, and extraordinary archival material.

The Guardian favorably reviewed one of Sam Shaw's photos that appears for the first time in the current National Portrait Gallery's Audrey Hepburn exhibition, saying "She is sitting at a bar wearing a coat, surrounded by laughing, drinking men. She stares straight at us, with the loneliness of someone in an Edward Hopper painting. There is more poignancy and depth in this single photo than in the entire movie..."
